Replacement of ineffective pharmacotherapy in chronic prostatitis and chronic pelvic pain syndrome by low-frequency pulsed magnetic therapy was tested on 46 patients in the study of T. H. Kim and his research team (2013).
Anti-inflammatory drugs and antibiotics are not always effective in the treatment of prostatitis or chronic pelvic pain, despite the fact that their use in these instances is not even clearly justified.
The origin of pain in these conditions is not fully understood, although cramps of pelvic muscles are contributing factors in many men. Therefore, the authors of this study decided to test the analgesic and healing effects of low-frequency pulsed magnetic therapy on 46 men suffering from these diseases to be able to eventually replace an ineffective drug therapy by applications of pulsed magnetic therapy.
Patients received six weeks of pulsed magnetic therapy with a total of 12 half-hour applications. For the first 15 minutes, pulsed magnetic field was set to 10 Hz and for the remaining time it was adjusted to 50 Hz. Evaluation of the effects of treatment took place after the treatment and then after 12 and 24 weeks.
All patients experienced significant pain relief not only at the end of the therapy, but also after 24 weeks. An immediate improvement of symptoms of the disease and the therapeutic effect lasted for the whole duration of the study.
Pulsed magnetic therapy thus have clear long-term beneficial effects in the treatment of chronic prostatitis and chronic pelvic pain. Pulsed magnetic field reduces both pain and problems associated with the urinary tract.
