Reliability of back pain treatment

The reliability of pulsed magnet therapy for back pain was tested in 40 patients in a randomized, placebo-controlled study by R. N. Harden (2007).

During the first two weeks of treatment, there were no differences between the placebo group and the low-frequency pulsed magnet therapy group . However, thereafter, a significant change was noted in the results. Patients affected by the pulsed magnetic field showed much more significant improvement after two weeks. Their pain was relieved by 20% or more compared to the placebo group.

The results of this study therefore confirm the analgesic effects of a pulsed magnetic field with a frequency of 2 Hz and an intensity of 15 mT.

At the same time, the results of the study show that these effects can occur after two weeks of pulsed magnet therapy. However, according to the authors, this does not affect its usefulness and it should therefore become part of holistic care.
