Supportive treatment of the shoulder
Supportive treatment of the shoulder with pulsed magnet therapy was tested in a group of 66 patients who eventually had to undergo surgery for a rotator cuff tear due to overuse of the shoulder joint. The results of this three-year study were published in 2015 (Osti et al.).
Pulsed magnetotherapy was chosen for this postoperative treatment due to its known effects. The aim was to reduce local inflammation and postoperative joint swelling, shorten the recovery time and, above all, provide pain relief.
A total of 32 patients received this therapy for 8 hours a day for 6 weeks. The remaining 34 patients had sham pulsed magnet therapy and served as a control group. The efficacy of the treatment was evaluated after 3 months and then after 2 years.
The results of this study confirmed the anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects of pulsed magnetic fields.
Pulsed magnet therapy therefore relieves postoperative pain and stiffness of the shoulder and thus significantly contributes to the rehabilitation of overworked muscles in the shoulder joint, associated injuries and accompanying inflammation.
