Evaluation of the effect of treatment of persistent neuropathic pain by nine hourly applications of a pulsed magnetic field with a frequency of 30 Hz and an intensity of 2 mT was prepared by a study (Weintraub et al., 2004) involving 24 patients.
In this case, the effectiveness of pulsed magnet therapy was determined by the balance of pain scores for each patient before and after the total therapy and also after 30 days of the therapy.
Over 67% of patients experienced significant improvement after completing all nine applications. The results confirmed pain relief in more than 50% of the patients, with at least 20% improvement after the end of the therapy and 39% improvement 30 days after the end of the therapy.
The study also noted that the best analgesic effect of pulsed magnetic therapy on neuropathic pain was observed in those patients who had more extensive neuropathic pain symptoms.
If patients have too mild symptoms, the effect of a pulsed magnetic field of 30 Hz and 2 mT may not be felt.
Pulsed magnet therapy is therefore very effective in the treatment of more extensive ongoing neuropathic pain.
