Do your hands often get cold? Do they change colour to blue first and then red? Do you then feel pain? Insufficient blood perfusion can be a result of bad lifestyle choices but also a symptom of a more serious disease.
Characteristics of Upper Extremity Ischemia and its Causes
Upper extremity ischemia is a disease of the arteries in the upper limbs leading to ischemia. There is insufficient supply of oxygen and nutrients to the muscles and tissues.
This disease is significantly less common than lower extremity ischemia.
There are two recognized types – proximal and distal (acral).
Proximal type of the upper extremity ischemia is most commonly caused by atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries).
A more common form is distal type – Raynaud‘s phenomenon. In cases of primary Raynaud’s phenomenon, where there is no determined primary illness, the term Raynaud’s disease is used. If Raynaud’s phenomenon is a symptom of another disease, we call it Raynaud’s syndrome. Raynaud’s syndrome is a comorbidity of a more serious disease, like rheumatic, arterial, neurological and other diseases.
Vascular spasm is another symptom of insufficient blood perfusion and is caused by diseases of the shoulder girdle during diseases of peripheral vessels and other conditions.
Blood perfusion disorders can signal various diseases, they may have various causes and that is why it is important to always consult a specialist.
Upper Extremity Ischemia Treatment – Rid yourself of the Pain
This disease requires specialised vascular examination and a timely start to treatment based on the stage and location of the disease. The main goal is to improve arterial blood circulation and to avoid amputation.
Adjustments to the lifestyle and elimination of risk factors like smoking, stress, weight reduction and managing diabetes are important.
The main goal of pharmacological treatment is to reduce platelet aggregation and creation of blood clots (anti-aggregation therapy). Some drugs can directly affect arteries and cause their dilation (vasodilation therapy).
Regular physical exercise and rehabilitation are important.
3D Biomag pulse therapy helps significantly to solves issues caused by upper extremity ischemia.
Explanation of chosen terms:
- Raynaud’s phenomenon – a type of vasoneurosis symptomized by significant whitening of fingers triggered by coldness. The fingers later turn blue and then red with pain.
- Atherosclerosis – hardening of the arteries as a result of plaque building up in arterial walls.
- Distal – distant, located on the other side than the point of origin (with the upper extremity, it means the hand and fingers).
- Proximal – close to the point of origin (with the upper extremity it means the shoulder).
Patented 3D Biomag pulsed therapy. How does it work?
The basic principle of 3D Biomag magnetotherapy is generating electromagnetic pulses. The generated pulses penetrate through layers of clothing and even body tissues to the place of application. These pulses have specially developed biotropic parameters (e.g. frequency, profile, intensity), thanks to which the pulsed magnetotherapy affects various health conditions.
The term pulse magnetotherapy is most commonly used for physiotherapy using the principle of electromagnetic pulses. The abbreviation PEMF is used in order to be concise.
Patented 3D Biomag technology ensures more precise and uninterrupted pulse profiles, enhances output, and allows pulses to come from various angles. This makes it a completely new and unique medical technology on the market.
What are the benefits of therapy of upper extremity ischemia?
- Vasodilation effect takes place.
- Microcirculation of oxygenated blood and nutrients in the exposed tissue is stimulated.
- Thanks to being easy to use, it can be applied at home.
- It’s a solution with no additional medicaments.
- It’s a non-invasive treatment.

The effects of pulsed therapy - clinical studies
Effects of pulse therapy (PEMF) on reducing spinal pain are supported by many studies: for one, a clinical study from 2013 performed by the research team of Y. Pan at the department of internal medicine of the 92th hospital in Nanping, China. It proves that a pulsed magnetic field improves blood perfusion and creation of new blood vessels in cases of acute lower extremity ischemia. It logically follows from the above-mentioned that 3D Biomag pulse therapy can help significantly with treating patients with extremity ischemia. More about this scientific study.
Positive effects of pulse magnetic field (PEMF) are evidenced by clinical studies by authorities on the subject and renowned institutions. The newest list of these clinical studies can be found on this page. Contact us and we will gladly help to familiarize yourself with this expert data.
Our department uses pulse magnetic field application very well. We appreciate that not only is there an option to used numbered programmes, but also to set up our own programmes. The device is small and easy to operate with good output.
University hospital Na Bulovce, Prague – Physiotherapy department
We have been utilising pulse magnetic field treatment in our spa for more than 10 years. We use Biomag devices for both physiotherapy and spa treatment. It is very advantageous to combine magnetotherapy with other physiotherapy methods because the effect of magnetotherapy potentiates with other methods (analgesic, anti-oedematous, recovery and myorelaxing).
Bělohrad Peat Spa – Lázně Bělohrad
We are happy with the device. The applicators are also easy to operate, and treatment results are satisfying. Feedback from patients is positive. Average number of applications is 50 per week.

My husband uses the device for the leg joints pains, against to spasms and for hands after strenuous workload. After use, a quicker relief will come.Ingrid Molnárová, Zlata Idka
I use the Biomag device with very good effects on musculoskeletal system pain resulting from the vertebrogenic syndrome. I use the device further for extremity ischaemia and occasionally bladder inflammation.Jana Jurčeková, Hroznova Lhota
